Book Review: Tough by Terry Crews

I was really looking forward to read it before and when I bought the book. Getting an insight into the life of someone I've seen onscreen has always been fun for me. Plus from what I have seen of Terry Crews, I always thought he was an interesting human being.

It's not that I didn't like the book. I just couldn't finish it as soon as I would have liked to. I don't remember when I first started reading the book but it definitely feels like it took me around 6 months to finish the book.
There are so many books I have been wanting to read but the thing is I am someone who needs to finish one before I start reading another. This is the reason why I once didn't read a single book in over a year because I found the book I started reading to be so dull that I couldn't be bothered to finish it. Which also meant that I couldn't get myself to read another book because I hadn't finished the old one.
So yeah, this is my review of the book. I didn't find it captivating enough for me to finish the book in a few sittings. I am not saying that it wasn't interesting, I am saying it wasn't interesting enough. I just couldn't relate to most of it. Mainly because we are so different and we grew up in such different environments and culture. Of course, learning about what he went through, how that shaped him into the person he was before and the person he is now is all interesting. Also getting to hear of stories from behind the scenes of movices and show that I grew up watching will never be not interesting to me.

So here is 95% of my review of the book:
It took me about 6 months to finish reading the book.

The other 5%?
The book redefines what the word tough really means. Terry chose the best title for his book. I'm sure the first impression of most people who see Terry Crews is that he is a large, mean, tough guy. Those who know a little bit more about him, who
know he was an NFL athlete, who saw the kinds of movies and roles he has played would agree that Terry is tough.
But those who have read the book would add that he is not tough because of his physique, his NFL background, or the roles he's portrayed. I think he is tough because he can look in a mirror and see himself in there for who he really is. He sees his flaws. He sees what he needs to do to be a better person.
Terry Crews is such a fascinating person and I just love seeing him on screen and being able to get a closer look at who he is and what makes Terry Crews, Terry Crews was definitely eye opening and a great example of why we should never judge people from what we see and are made to see.
The books also sheds light into some incidences that we from the outside may or may not have heard of but we major ones in America; The O.J Simpson case, George Floyd's murder, Bin Laden's assassination, the Me too Movement, to name a few that I can remember off the top of my head right now. He talks about what was happening around him during these incidences/ movements, his thoughts on them and why he said what he said and stuff like that. Reading (however slowly) about all these showed me that he really is a tough guy and also gave mean insight into what made him the Terry Crews that we see today.
The life lessons he has learned and the experiences he gained in his lifetime is not going to help me on my journey of (re)discovering myself but it sure did make me realize that I can, anyone can, be "tough".
